Gilfach Nature Reserve

Gilfach Nature Reserve

Gilfach Nature Reserve just north of Rhayader is managed by Radnorshire Wildlife Trust. It occupies a beautiful valley with a range of habitats.  Its archaeological sites range from the bronze age to the present.  Photographing these sites in summer is not the best time as the vegetation masks the finer details.  But in these images can be seen a bronze age burial cairn, a Roman road, a medieval longhouse with earlier building platforms, tracks leading to this farmstead and a section of an medieval(?) orthostat wall which extends for around 500m.  A valley to return to at other times of year.
